Lawless Murder Conviction Referred

Ian Lawless was convicted of the Murder of Alfie Wilkins in February 2002 , the national media descirbed it as a "vigilante murder " of a suspected paedophile . Mr Wilkins who was not under suspicision died by smoke inhilation following a fire .
Today Mr Lawless's case has been sent back to the Court of Appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission , the independant government body charged with revewing and identifying miscarriages of justice .
The appeal will be based upon fresh evidence and in particular the testimony of Professor Gudjonnsson , an eminent psychologist who has given evidence in many of the countries leading miscarriage cases including the Guildford 4 , Derek Bentley , Barry George to name but a few .
Ian Lawless's Solicitor Mark Newby of Jordans LLP said :
" There is a lot to do ready for this important appeal , we are however delighted and grateful to the hard work done by the commission in ensuring the serious issues in Mr Lawless's case are heard by the Court of Appeal . We are hopeful justice will finally be done to Ian "
The appeal will be heard at a later date .

Steven Breeze's conviction has been quashed by the Full Court . This was despite an initial refusal by the Single Judge . An extensive investigation was able to deliver strong grounds which contributed to a view by the Court that the direcitons given by the Trial Judge were inadequate .
